By invitation of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Serbia and within the program of Europe Day 2022, the Western Balkans Youth Orchestra gave a concert on Liberty Square of Novi Sad, European Capital of Culture 2022.
Under the motto "Better Together", the WBYO gathered 60 young musicians from across the Balkans under the baton of Desar Sulejmani. The orchestra was joined on stage by special guests: Ivana Peters, The Frajle, Ana Stanić, Zoe Kida, Bilja Krstić, Kiki Lesendrić and Stevan Karanac. The concert programme included several music genres, including classical, film, rock, pop and ethno music.
The concert was preceded by intense rehearsals in the Novi Sad Synagoge beginning on May 5th.
The performance on Liberty Square marked WBYO's first appearance as a full-sized symphonic orchestra and its first visit to Serbia. It attracted WBYO's record audience to date, filling the whole square, and was broadcasted live on RTS 2 & TV Vojvodina 1. The concert spurred enthusiastic reactions from the audience and can be seen as a great success and confirmation of its concept.
